A youth team for 16 to 18-year-olds to play for the club has been launched for next season, which begins in August, with the aim to train them up for the adult teams.

Around 20 players will be needed for the side.

The teenage footballers will be invited to join the club’s pre-season training one night a week, starting on June 25 at the Locks Heath recreation ground in Warsash Road. A trial match will then be arranged later in the pre-season to test the skills of the youth-hopefuls.

Club chairman Dougie Leask said when he began at the club eight years ago, they had a youth team, but it fizzled out after a year or so because of a lack of commitment.

The club is talking to other youth football clubs in the area about feeding players into the new Locks side.
